Located less than one hour from Lake Tahoe, Reno, NV, is a true hidden gem in the heart of the High Sierra for wine lovers. I was pleasantly surprised at the ample choices of wine tasting in Reno!
Although not as famous as the Napa Valley or the Willamette Valley, Reno’s wineries offer a delightful experience for both seasoned wine tasters and those just discovering the joys of wine.

From the historic charm of the Nevada Sunset Winery to the urban sophistication of Engine 8 Urban Winery, let’s explore the top wineries in Reno that make it a must-visit destination for anyone in the area!
1. Nevada Sunset Winery

Situated in a historic downtown building, Nevada Sunset Winery boasts a cozy ambiance and an impressive selection of wines.
Their knowledgeable staff guides you through tastings, where you can sit right at the bar or nearby tables. The owners might even be able to show you the production area! I especially loved the canned sangria!
2. Engine 8 Urban Winery
- Address: 1260 Avenue of the Oaks, Sparks, NV 89431
- Hours: Thu-Thurs: 1 PM – 9 PM, Fri-Sat: 12 PM – 10 PM
As an urban winery housed in a renovated firehouse, Engine 8 blends modern flair with historic charm. It’s actually Northern Nevada’s largest winery!
Their diverse wine list, including creative blends and classics, caters to every palate. You can even schedule a tour for just $25!
It’s a perfect Reno winery as they have a complete food menu and host live music on the weekends!
Travel Tip! I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND taking a bit of a road trip to check out the wineries near South Lake Tahoe!
3. Whispering Vine

- Hours: Mon-Sat: 11 AM – 9 PM (Kitchen opens at 4 pm)
Whispering Vine, with its laid-back atmosphere, is a local favorite for wine enthusiasts in Reno.
The extensive wine list features both local and international selections, and the knowledgeable staff is always ready to assist in finding the perfect pairing.
In my opinion, this Reno winery has one of the best outdoor patios with beautiful views of the Truckee River. The cozy ambiance makes it an ideal spot for a casual wine tasting or a relaxed evening with friends.
4. Napa Sonoma
- Address: 7671 South Virginia St. Reno, Nevada 89511
- Hours: Tues: 11 AM – 9 PM, Wed-Sun: 7 AM – 9 PM
Although this isn’t the type of winery you’d find in Napa or Sonoma, it’s a unique stop when wine tasting in Reno.
Not only is it a full restaurant and boutique grocery store, there’s also a complete wine bar. The outdoor patio provides a perfect setting to savor your favorite wine while enjoying the Nevada sunshine.
Travel Tip! Many of these wineries are open during winter too. In fact, wine tasting is one of the top things to do in Tahoe in the winter!
5. The Lodge Bar & Patio

The Lodge Bar & Patio offers a unique fusion of two of my favorite beverages. Whether you’re in the mood for a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine, this versatile spot has you covered.
The cozy lodge-inspired ambiance, coupled with an impressive wine selection and amazing views, makes it an inviting destination for any time of day.
They also have live music or trivia almost every open day!
6. Grafted Whiskey and Wine Bar

- Hours: Sun-Thurs: 11:30 AM – 8 PM, Fri- Sat: 11:30 AM – 9 PM
For those seeking a blend of whiskey and wine in an upscale environment, Grafted Whiskey and Wine Bar is the place to be.
The extensive menu includes a curated selection of both spirits and wines, providing a sophisticated atmosphere for connoisseurs. The knowledgeable staff is eager to guide you through their offerings, ensuring a memorable tasting experience.
Plus, if you visit between 3-5pm you’ll be met with great happy hour specials!
7. Bistro Napa
